Would I need to take a manual book-keeping course before taking a computerised one?

I have some (limited) experience but just wondered if it's necessary to do the manual course first? I'm in the UK,.

  1. I don't think you would actually. I did a TAS books course before I did any other accountancy courses and like you I had a limited knowledge at the time. You should try and find a basic computerised accounts course. The really good thing about computerised accounting packages are you don't need to be 100% sure about what account you are debiting or crediting the system does this work behind the scenes. For example if you are paying an invoice with TAS books you only need to input the expense it should be, the amount etc and the system debits the expense and credits the relevant creditor. You will also pick up more of the accounting theory as you go along. Good luck with it
