How best to get from Miami South Beach to Port Everglades without your own car?

I know it can be done on public transport but it involves three separate buses, and takes over two hours. All the taxi firms seem to come in at around $70-85, which is more than I'd like to pay. The limo services are more like $70-85 per person, which is even worse. I'm just looking for a simple, quick-ish way to make this journey that doesn't cost the earth...

  1. If you can figure a way to get to Miami-Dade county's MetroRail system, that will connect to the Broward county Tri-Rail system. Disembark at Hollywood-Fort Lauderdale International Airport, and take either taxi or limo from there. Unless things have changed, the busses don't service the various piers within the port. You'd have to switch to taxi near the port entrance. Don't try to walk from the port entrance, especially not with your luggage. Alternatively, ask some taxi drivers to give you a "flat rate" .. or even arrange for a taxi driver or hotel employee to take you in his (or her) private car. And btw, two hours from Miami Beach to Port Everglades isn't bad time. I doubt if anyone would do it for under $50 - $60.
  2. You'd be better off renting a car. I presume you are taking a cruise? I doubt it would cost that much if you rented a car from one rental place & dropped it off at another location since it's not that far. Also try supershuttle. Looks like they do it for cheap.
  3. rent a car!
  4. Can go from Miami to Key Largo for about $2.50 on the Metro. U get a transfer at each end stop for extra 50 cents. The cheapest and most convenient way to do the states is by greyhound.
